Minolta Film Cameras
Minolta Film Cameras are classic Japanese camera technology on par with Canon and Nikon. Minolta used to
manufacture film cameras. It is a Japanese company that was founded back in 1928.
Minolta Film Cameras are known for their revolutionary autofocus first found in their 35mm SLR cameras. The
company makes twin-lens reflex cameras, single-lens reflect cameras. Their cameras have been in space, in fact,
astronaut John Glenn brought it aboard on the Freedom 7.
Some Minolta film cameras are actual Leica. The Minolta CL was a Leica-Minolta cooperative venture. it benefited
from Minolta technical wizardry and Leica lens fame. However, Minolta technology was actually found to be
infringing on patents by other companies including Honeywell, which Minolta had to later pay millions of dollars in
damages.
Minolta Film Cameras began with imported technology and it was originally a German-Japanese outfit. However, it
quickly developed its fame for innovative technology. In the 1970s, Minolta cameras gained a reputation for being
some of the best cameras of their time. Minolta Film Cameras were priced to appeal to the amateur market. They
lacked the durability and features required by professionals. However, they made up for it with high quality lenses
and affordable pricing.
Minolta is a good camera to purchase if you are in a beginning photography class. While it is true that all new
camera classes recommend digital cameras, many students are still taught with manual film cameras. Digital cameras
simply imitate film. Film carries a lot more information that digital can. To properly learn how to shoot, you need
to learn on film. Minolta cameras enable that to happen.
For just $40 you can buy a used manual Minolta film camera on eBay. These cameras are in very good condition and
function perfectly. Film cameras work so well, especially manual cameras, because they are simple designs. Simple
and elegant. Well functioning machines.
Minolta film cameras are also available in the APS (Advanced Photo System) format. The camera line was heavily
invested in. You can find these in the Vectis line which made SLR cameras. However, the DiMAGE line of digital
cameras took over soon and phased out the APS models.
Minolta cameras may be best known for their easy access to amateur photographers. They worked with high-end
camera maker Leica to make quality optics priced reasonably. While it is true that Nikon and Canon cameras are
good, they were just never at the same quality and value that Minolta offered. The ultimate undoing of Minolta was
not due to poor film cameras, but rather, a slow adaptation to the digital camera business.
Purchasing a Minolta film camera is a no brainer. They are some of the best film cameras on the market. The
optics are fantastic. The camera body is great and do not let professionals tell you otherwise. With normal use
these cameras will last for several hundred years. Unfortunately, film is a dying medium. One day these cameras
will become relics. The best film cameras of the 1970s in my humble opinion.
